TRISTAR® Polycarbonate – Durability for Everyday Exterior Applications
Blog

Properties and Benefits of Tristar® Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous thermoplastic that can be used in higher-temperature applications because of its glass transition temperature of 150o C. This, combined with its high impact resistance, makes Polycarbonate a great fit for outdoor applications.

TRISTAR® Polycarbonate (PC) has been formulated to improve its chemical resistance, weather resistance, and low-temperature impact resistance. The resulting material is F1 rated for outdoor use and certified with a full UL yellow card system (UL 94, V-2,V-1,V-0, 5VA, elevated RTI’s [relative thermal index]).

Outdoor Engineering Applications

TRISTAR® PC's blend of high impact resistance, high-heat resistance, and dimensional durability gives it an edge in engineering applications like:

  • Equipment housings
  • Outdoor lighting fixtures
  • Fiber optic enclosure brackets
  • Medical supply components
  • Exterior automotive components
  • Nameplates and bezels
  • Structural parts
  • Circuit protection devices
  • F1-rated TRISTAR® PC-10FRN series resins are often used in enclosure applications that call for a range of temperatures — from very high to very low — and involve an electric power connection. These can include:

    BAP Blogpage_Image_Telecom Boxes

Our TRISTAR® PC-10FR VIM series is perfect for industrial products and hand tools because of its high impact resistance. PC-10FR VIM is also flame retardant and UV-stabilized.

All TRISTAR products can be produced in custom colors and are available in quantities as low as 55 pounds.
